Founded in 2016, I started Arrowhead Recording with the idea that each cut of every song would mirror the original recording as close as could be, Pulling songs from Billboard’s Top 100 — from country to pop to rock n’ roll — it was my idea that to get the songs that I wanted produced into the square dance scene. Sometimes you have to take the bull by the horns and do it yourself.
Utilizing Nashville’s world renown musician Michael Salacuse and others, Arrowhead has showcased such hits as Johnny Preston’s If You Could Read My Mind (Gordon Lightfoot), Mike Seastrom’s Don’t Bring Me Down (Electric Light Orchestra), Philipp Kamm & Dean Singleton’s Take It Easy (Eagles), Jerry Story’s Lodi (Credence Clearwater Revival) and Tony Oxendine’s Mr. Bojangles (Nitty Gritty Band). Additionally, many of the patters have been heard at dance halls around the world including Happy Feet, Shaken Not Stirred, Tico Tico, Koda and Broken Arrow to name a few.
The creation of each song is simple yet complex, The first part involves hand picking a song, One that ideally hasn’t been produced for square dancing, one that can be dissected and arranged for square dancing, one that has a dance beat of some sort that fits close to our current dance beat per minute, one that other callers should recognize, one that is fairly easy to sing. And honestly, the most important part in making a great production starts with the selection process.
Arrowhead is proud to have over 18 national callers help lay down vocals for these tracks! All these artists volunteer their time in the studio to help producers like me build a quality hit. My sincere gratitude goes out to all those talented callers who have helped shape Arrowhead as a leading source of great square dance music!
